Hi,
I had been renting a 1bd room condo for over 4.5 years - the lease was month-to-month. I have been a good renter and paid rent exactly on time every month.
I moved out of the apt. last month (oct 7) after giving appropriate notice. My landlord decided to sell the condo when I gave notice. I just heard from my landlord that I will be charged for a new stove. When I moved in there was a new electric stove with a glass top. I had made every reasonable attempt to keep it clean but over the years some of the stains remained. There is nothing wrong with the stove itself, just the glass top shows visible signs of usage and has some dirt marks.
Is it reasonable for the landlord to charge me for a new one since she wants to sell the house ? What qualifies as reasonable wear and tear on a new stove ? There is no way, I could've maintained it as new. At the time of moving out, I had asked for an inspection, the landlord came back and said that it wasn't required. At least, if I had been told at that time, I would've tried to clean it more or done something else.
I think it is unreasonable for the landlord to charge me for a new one. Further, I understand CA law requires that security deposits be returned within 21 calendar days (which we are already past, as of today).
What recourse do I have ?

Much Thanks!
