My question involves a background check in the State of: IL
Two years ago on Valentine's Day I went out to dinner with my boyfriend and the restaurant was BYOB so we brought a bottle of wine and I got smashed. Then we had to stop at a Safeway and pick up some items. I was drunk and being stupid and ended up shoplifting. I got caught and the security guard went through his procedure and I apologized and he said I can't come back to that store. Fair enough. What a foolish thing to do. Anyway, a month later I get a letter from a Safeway lawyer and they sued me, I guess?, for like $600. I was able to pay it off and I didn't have to go to court or anything so it seemed like it was handled privately. Forward to today, I had an interview for a job at a grocery store and I desperately need the job and want it. They do conduct background check and I am extremely nervous that the situation will show up. Will it? I mean, the letter said that I would have to go to court if I didn't pay it but I was able to. Is that going to be on my record? Can someone give me some information about what to expect? Oh and apparently the store I am trying to get a job at uses PeopleWise Background Check...
Thanks so much!
