My question involves landlord-tenant law in the State of: Maryland.
I have lived at my current residence for about five years.
The house is in a good residential neighborhood and has cheap rent for a house of this size.
About a year after living here, my landlord decided to build 6 apartments going off of my house. Which was fine, considering how cheap the rent is.
But he's progressively been invading our privacy. At least three times a month, for the past 3 years or so, he just bursts into my house and starts walking around and looking in all the rooms. He doesn't give any notice whatsoever that he's going to show up, so a lot of the times he's come in the house has been messy, or he's walked in on one of us changing. If we lock the doors, he goes into a huge fit of rage, banging on the windows and doors until he's let in.
This year, our gas company told us that we have an illegal heat system and that they can't provide us propane. Our landlord refused to fix it, and refused to allow us to use space heaters, since he never fixed our electrical system from the 1940's, even after all that construction.
And might I mention, it was between 10-40 degrees from November to March.
Today, he came to our complex, and tried breaking into all the houses, when he thought no one was home.
I'm not sure what to do.
He's been so generous with the rent price, and where I live, we can't exactly afford anywhere else.
What should we do?
