Default Ex Has Virginia Warrant For Domestic Assault But Lives In Maryland

My question involves an arrest warrant from the State of: VA

My ex has a warrant for his arrest for domestic assault in the state of VA but he lives in MD. VA won't extradite him because it is a misdemeanor. What is gonna happen to it? Does anyone know if they could change it from a misdeamenor to felony so he could be extradited? I should mentioin that he is military and plans on reenlisting with hope of going to Germany. Is having an outstanding warrant in VA will prevent him from reenlisting?
    Thanks.

They can't change the scope or degree of the crime just to make extradition easier (wow, wouldn't THAT be great). The warrant will remain in place until the entering agency removes it - usually doesn't happen until a death certificate is produced. Warrants don't expire. It will almost certainly prevent him from re-enlisting (especially if military authorities are somehow mysteriously informed that a warrant exists), and even if the State of Virginia doesn't want to incur the expense for extradition, the military won't have any problem delivering him in shackles to anywhere in the country.

Ok, he has finally turned himself in and I've learned from the magistrate that he was booked and released. He has a court date Friday morning where I beleive they'll be setting up the trial date. What should I expect now?
    Thanks!
