Default Juvenile - 2nd Offense Petty Theft In CA

My question involves criminal law for the state of: CA

My sister is now 17 and was with her friend when they were stopped by the worker's at a retail store. Her friend was the one who stole the merchandise but they both are being charged. This would be my sister's second offense. I know this looks worse since she already had a record as a juvenile for the same offense. Would we be able to argue that she is not involved with the crime and she's simply with her friend. What kind of consequences would she be looking at?

She is a very good student, active in school activities, participates in sports, officer and high GPA. It would be a waste if she would have to spend time in the hall.

    Thanks.

Her GPA etc doesnt impress me since this is her second offense. That doesnt show much brains in my view. Now since she was present and likely had knowledge of theft yes she can be charged. She should seek criminal defense Attorney and hope for best
