    Default High School Parking Tickets

My question involves a traffic citation from the state of: Iowa.
I go to a high school where administrators hand out parking tickets to students who park illegally in the school parking lot. They give you a ticket which says it is for ten dollars and then the ten dollars is crossed out and they write 25 dollars in in pen. I tried to appeal my ticket with school administration within the two day requested time period. The lady at the school front desk sent me to the principal who sent me back to the front desk lady. She then sent me to a different principal who said he will look into it. I also asked if I could speak with me accuser because I received the ticket on a Monday for parking "illegally" on a Friday. The principals said due process does not matter because this isn't a criminal matter. I was just wondering if this is true that due process does not matter and if since I tried to appeal in the correct amount of time and they really do not have an appeal process since they have to have one in place which they don't. What I can do fight this more than I already have? And if anyone could answer any of the questions I had that would be great!

    Thanks you

Are you saying you weren't parked illegally or that you shouldn't have been fined?

Parking in a school lot may act like private property. If it does, then they get to set their own rules.

What I am saying is that I tried to appeal it and there was no set appeal process even though on the ticket it says you can appeal it. Doesn't there have to be an appeal process? Also does due process matter. For example I asked to see my accuser and they said I can't. Because I wanted to ask him where I was parked because I don't remember parking illegally on the friday and I was given my ticket on a Monday.

All right... take a deep breath.

Let's forget about the Civics class you took for a second and answer my question.

Did you part illegally? Do you remember where you parked?

    I wasn't being cute.

Four days after the fact, it is possible that you don't remember where you parked.

Heck, I was at the mall yesterday and I couldn't tell you where I parked.

When you got the ticket and took it to the principal, would you consider that an appeal to a higher court?

No because he then sent me away because he was not the appeal process. He sent me back to the lady who hands out the tickets in the office because he did not no what to do.

If this is just a ticket "made up by the high school" and not something enforced through the courts, then your appeal would typically first be to school administrators within the school (i.e., the principal who was "looking into it"), second to the school board, and only after your administrative remedies failed to a regular court.
