Default How Long Does Employer Have To Enforce New Wage Assignment?

My question involves child support in the State of: CA, County of Los Angeles

My ex husband has paid his support regularly thru wage assignment thru his employer. He would not have paid otherwise. So lets just say he is forced.

I recently got a modification totalling about $320 more a month. The wage assignment was sent to the employer about 3 weeks ago, and my last 2 payments still do not reflect the higher amount.

Do you know how long the employer has to make the changes? What do I do if they dont make the changes?
In case anyone knows this employer personally and has experience with them it is Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transit Authority, also known as MTA or Metro.

    Thanks

I would give it one more week, then call the agency handling your case. I would assume that the new witholding should start with the following pay cycle after the new order is received. After that, it gets sent in to the State Dispursement Unit, processed, then sent to you.

Three weeks minimum to actually see the difference sounds about right to me. Your ex will see the change in witholding first, then you will see it maybe a week or two after that.

You can register on-line and monitor your account activity.

    RE: Customer Connect Link

Oops, I just noticed this part.

Today, Customer Connect is only available to individuals with cases in counties that have transitioned to the new statewide child support system and individuals with private child support orders.

The transitioned counties are: Alpine, Amador, Butte, Calaveras, Colusa, Contra Costa, Del Norte, El Dorado, Glenn, Humboldt, Inyo, Kings, Lassen, Merced, Modoc, Mono, Monterey, Napa, Nevada, Orange, Placer, Plumas, Sacramento, San Benito, San Bernardino, Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo, Siskiyou, Riverside, San Mateo, Santa Cruz, Sierra, Solano, Sonoma, Sutter, Tehama, Tuolumne, Ventura, and Yolo.

Your county isn't listed. If it won't let you register, you can still find other contact information posted at the site though.

    Double Dipped,
Thanks for your response. I cannot monitor my account there, as Los Angeles has not transitioned to that type yet. I would think they would be one of the first, but nope. Not yet. I sure wish I could.

    Thanks again.

Yeah I had not seen that you wrote that, and I was telling you about it. LOL
I dont understand why LA has not transitioned. Maybe because they are so large and have so many cases.
I live in North Carolina, and I know here they can monitor it online too.

FYI... CSSD generally gives employers a month to respond to wage assignments - new ones or modifications.

The question now is, how do you know it actually went out to the employer already? When I was employed with CSSD, it took us a few weeks just to get the order prepared and out the door.

Well I called them and they claimed it went to Metro on the25th of April. I am going to "assume" they are not lying to me. Now my experience of Metro taking care of changes when they should has not been good. A few months ago the Wage Assignment was changed to catch up to the arrears he owes. And they shorted me 200 bucks on that check. And as we all know you dont get that money back except slowly in arrears payments, but this time CS forgot to add the arrears on the order. I give up, let the arrears just add up and up I assume one day dummy will file taxes, who knows.
