My question involves a traffic ticket from the state of: Georgia
As I was traveling north on a 4 lane highway and all lights were all out and blinking. As I approached the intersection I stopped and waited for my turn to turn left. After waiting, all cars to the left, right and in front came to a stop. After being given what I thought to be the go ahead to proceed I did. The two cars in the oncoming left lane had all slowed down - a grey car and a black Dodge Dakota truck. I was under the assumption that I could proceed and make a left. I went through the intersection and as I did, I noticed the black truck moving towards me – the driver was on the cell phone. I laid on the horn and kept beeping but to no avail. I slammed on the gas to try to keep the car from hitting me, but was clipped in the right rear. She told the officer that she put on her brakes. My question is how do you put on brakes but still hit another car?
The citation that was given to me stated a failure to yield. I was curious to know if this is a legit citation seeing that a) she was talking on the phone, b) by slowing down/stopping both cars indicated that it was safe to proceed and turn left into the intersection. Thank you!
