My question involves criminal records for the state of: Georgia
I was arrested five months ago after I got into an accident while driving on a suspended license. I received a ticket for following too closely and a ticket for violating the suspension.
I just had my court appearance this last week, and I chose to do a pre-trial with the solicitor. My attorney got my 'driving on a suspended license' charge dismissed and my 'following too closely' charge reduced to a 'basic rules' violation. I never went before the judge and never entered a plea. What all does this mean for me?
Do these show up on a criminal/arrest record, and could they affect me when I apply for graduate schools and/or apply for jobs? How long will these affect my insurance premiums? In Georgia, is it true that a person is not eligible for expungement until five (clean) years after the incident? And what the hell does 'basic rules' mean exactly and does it add any points to my driving history? (GA has a point system)
