Default Paternity Test For Soon To Be Father

my mom says i cant leave california to go to virginia with my girlfriend and baby until a paternity test is done. she is giving her guardianship up if it is so i will be allowed to leave. is there any ways to set up a paternity test to be done when the baby is born? further more is there any better ways to get the baby medical insurance rather than signing it over to her mother which i disagree with.

How old are you and how old is pregnant GF? You can go to court a file for paternity after child is born. Go to any Family courthouse ask the Clerk for proper forms to file and pay the fees

Actually, in CA, he can start a paternity action while girlfriend is pregnant, however, I also am curious to know how old the OP is. Also, your mother doesn't have guardianship over you, she has CUSTODY.

Ok.. thanks HT. It appears from the other posts, that girlfriend is already gone to VA, so whether a parentage petition can be filed prior to the baby being born is not something I can answer.

OP, you are free to buy your own insurance for your child since you want to be all grown up about it. It'll cost an additional couple of hundred dollars a month so that you won't have huge copayments (newborns go to the doctor a lot - you want smaller copays). On top of the medical insurance, make sure your job can pay for daycare, food, clothing, medicine, child support and other incidentals. Unless you are independently wealthy, I wonder how you think you're going to be able to support a child at 16 while (hopefully) continuing your education. What's your plan exactly?
