Default Subtenant Not On Lease Rights

My question involves a roommate in the State of: New York

I moved into an apartment as a fourth roommate a couple of months ago. I have been paying my rent(on time) to one of the tenants on the lease. Recently I was asked to move out due to "lifestyle differences". I was given 30 days notice and I am fine with the decision but don't think I will be able to vacate in that amount of time. How can I argue an extension?

    Ask nicely?

The "thirty days notice" - was that formal, written notice, or just their telling you, "We want you out in a month"?

    Is this NYC??
