My name is Jessica, And I am currently a minor in Michigan. I was forced to move when my parents moved upstate About two months ago. I left a great job, my friends and not to mention a stable learning enviroment in which I still obtained all A's. I am now attending a new school, have no job, and as much as I am trying I cannot grasp my grades, and I am getting beat up at school . I cannot concentrate here , and my goals are going down the drain. I am fifteen years old... but had to grow up fast. I am now living in a house/cabin. With a loft, a bathroom, and when you walk into the door you can see the kitchen and the rest of the living room. It is to small. We have five people living there. I get my Licence in May ... and I know that I can handle myself. I want to get emancipated and move on BY myself. Back to my old town. I automatically get my Job back, and he has offered me a raise if I come back. TO 6.50 per hour. I can handle myself. Do you think the courts would side with me once I am sixteen? :cry: [/i]

To be emancipated in Michigan, absent a circumstance which automatically results in emancipation (such as marriage or active duty service in the armed forces), your have to be at least 16 years old, and convince a court that you are able to support yourself, and are capable of managing your own financial and social affairs. Michigan's emancipation statutes are available online.

Unfortunately, whether or not a judge will grant emancipation is a fact-dependent, case-by-case question, which can also be affected by the preferences and personality of the judge. A local lawyer may be able to assess your chances (but you don't have to use a lawyer to petition for emancipation).
