    Default Variable Expenses

My question involves child support in the State of: Wisconsin

My boyfriends divorce was final in August of 2006. Originally he was paying family support because his ex wife said she was going to go back to school. 2 weeks after the divorce was final she dropped out of school and then got remarried 6 months later. Last summer, he took her back to court to get rid of family support and just pay child support. The change was in effect in August of last year. They share equal custody of 2 boys. He pays her $114 a week.

She gives him bills for variable expenses every month. She signs their oldest up (who's 7) for everything under the sun. She doesn't clear it with Robby (to make sure it's ok with him) and then gives him a bill for half of it. His swimming lessons were $400 (that was our half for 12 weeks of swimming- crazy). If Robby was asked before hand if that was ok, he would have said no and had her go to the YMCA for the same lessons, only cheaper. Her variable expenses are for everything (school supplies, lunches, haircuts, medical, daycare, sports, etc).

My question is, since they have 50/50 custody what the heck is child support paying for? Should we really be getting bills on everything? His half of the bills are over $400 a month- to me that seems a little crazy.

What does his court order say about extra curricular activities?

It said they (the activities) had to be agreed upon by both parents.

Variable expenses were never defined in their divorce.

Then he needs to stop paying for the activities they didn't agree on. Maybe if she sees that she can't continue to go against the CO, she will start talking with him about the kids activities.

We, aren't responsible for anything so we shouldn't be getting bills for anything. If you are receiving bills, you should politely return them and let them know that the parents of the child should deal with the bills, as you have no child between yourself and the ex.

However, your boyfriend is creating a pattern of being ok with the activities since he's paying for them. Has he ever thought of saying.....no?
