Default Fired Despite Winning Contest; No Prize Received

:? Question for your opinion: Can an employer set the clock ahead 4-5 minutes, then write you up and subsequently fire you because their clock is set fast?
Question for your opinion/advise? Employer held contest ending 12/31/2004. Team with most points wins cash prices. I was on that team. Individuals with over 10 points also receive additional cash prizes. I made 13 points. January, winners were to be announced, and prizes disbursed. :x Employer decides to fire me from at-will employment for "just because" at the end of January. I want my prizes and believe I am entitled because I worked their when contest started and ended. I believe they held-off giving the prizes until I was gone. What are your suggestions?

    Default Fired from At-Will Employment

It is difficult to make a case for wrongful termination of at-will employment. However, if under company policy you were entitled to your prizes from the December contest, you may wish to consider checking with a local employment lawyer to see if they constitute part of your wages (in the form of a promised bonus), as that may provide you with additional remedies. In the alternative, you may wish to consider small claims court.
