Default Chances Of Charges Getting Dropped

My question involves criminal law for the state of: Michigan

I am 17 years old and was caught shoplifting at Macys. The item i stole was under 100 dollars but because i am i minor i was arrested and taken to the station. my court date is set but i have questions on the legal proceedings that i need to go through. i know i need a lawyer but i was just wondering if there are any chances of charges either getting dropped .. paying a fine and whether or not this will stay on my permanent record . My parents have had me writing letters to Macys and the criminal investigators. Is this going to help my case out in any way?
