    Default Emancipation In Nevada

I'm 16 years old and am graduating in about a month and a half. My mother, step-father, and I do not get along at all and are constantly at each others' throats. I know that courts usually do not grant emancipation in cases such as these, but since I am graduating so soon and have done exceptionally well in school (I skipped 5th grade and am graduating after 3 years of high school instead of 4 with an honors diploma and a 4.2 GPA; I already know what colleges I'm going to and know what profession I'd like to go in; I am involved in clubs and National Honors Society and do community work; etc.) I was wondering if I could get emancipated. My parents won't let me move out unless I get emancipated because they do not want to be held responsible for my actions, yet they say they have no money to pay for emancipation fees. I've tried to tell them that anything I would need would be provided, plus I get about 400$ of Social Security since my real father is deceased. However, I receive NONE of that money, nor do I have control to where it goes. In the past it was used to cover bills because my step-father had a gambling problem (which he got help for and no longer has). My mom is also very irresponsible when it comes to things like doctors appointments. She never schedules them for me, or forgets to take me to them. She also practices an "alternative" parenting method for my younger sister (4 years old) that I don't agree with, but if I open my mouth about it I get scolded since I "don't know anything" (my mom doesn't even get her vaccinated!). My parents also don't like my boyfriend, and since my mom doesn't agree with my decision to be sexually active (though 16 is the age of consent in Nevada) she refuses to take me to get birth control. Also, whenever I get in trouble, I'm grounded, and not for a week or two but for MONTHS at a time. I have no social life and hardly any friends since my mom is so overbearing. I don't feel that it's healthy for a teenager to be couped up all the time, sitting at home alone and miserable with people she doesn't get along with; even my grandmother has tried to tell her this. There are other problems, but these are the main issues. I know if I do petition to be emancipated she'll try to use the fact that I've been smoking weed for about a year now to keep me in the house, but I decided recently that since I am graduating and growing up, and could possibly be moving out, that I need to be more responsible and have decided to quit, and I plan on sticking to that decision.

If I petition to be emancipated, how much roughly would everything cost, and do you think I have any chance at being awarded emancipation?? I am not currently employed, but am in the process of turning in applications and waiting to hear back from a few places, and I expect to be employed before I graduate. I also have plenty of friends that I could stay with, whose parents wouldn't mind me living with them. Any information, tips, or general comments would be appreciated!

You need to read the stickies at the top of the emancipation forum.

Your questions should be answered in there.

You don't have a valid case and don't meet the requirements for emancipation.

"My parents are mean and won't let me have sex!" is not reason for emancipation.

The law is here. Pay particular attention to this part.

Just based on what you've posted, your chances of being emancipated are about zip. Emancipation is rare; it is granted on need, not on want; nothing you have posted is even close to a valid reason.

Oh, and just because the age of consent is 16 doesn't mean your parents have to approve or permit it.

I also wanted to add that there is nothing wrong with this, this is not neglect or bad parenting. A lot of people choose to practice alternative parenting and some believe the vaccinations aren't good for their child. And you Mom is right, until you have a child of your own you don't know anything and have no right to tell her how to raise her own child.
