Oregon MIP

My 19 year old daughter received her first MIP here in Oregon. One of her friends went to court today receiving a fine and a 1 year license suspension (she pled no contest). But they said after 90 days she could come back and the suspension would be lifted. I'm trying to prepare for when my daughter goes to her court date. Is it best to plead no contest or not guilty, or does it matter? As for the suspension, she has to drive 20 miles to college. Is there a way to get an exception for that or is she just out of luck for 90 days?

The court will treat a "no contest" plea as a guilty plea (if it even accepts the plea), so there's a big difference between "no contest" and "not guilty."

From what I am seeing, the best way to avoid the suspension is through a deferral, but that's not necessarily available in your county or under the facts of your daughter's case. Your best bet is to ask a local criminal defense lawyer.

I'm 18 and from Oregon as well. I got my first MIP a month ago and they reduced my fine from 300 to 150 and didn't even mention getting my license suspended. I guess it depends where you live and what the judge tells you.
