    Default Speeding In Pennsylvania

My question involves a speeding ticket from the State of: Pennsylvania.

    Hello everyone,
Last night while i was driving home i was pulled over by a local city cop. He claims i was driving 61.7 mph in a 35mph zone. Now i know my car very well and i know i wasn't doing 61mph. I asked him how he calculated my speed to which he said Vascar. At the time i didn't know what it was, but after doing some research online, it doesn't seem to be the most accurate of systems... Am I in the wrong here? Another thing! He was following me from behind, which to me seems difficult to see where and when i pass a line on the road ( Depth perception, it was night time and so on...) So i guess my question is, how am i going to go about getting this dismissed or lowered so i don't get points put on my license. By the way, this is my first traffic offense after 6 years of driving. Thank you for your help.

Go to court and throw yourself on the mercy of the court. Ask the judge to reduce the violation to something with no points. Be polite, be short, do not try to explain yourself, dress nicely.

If you don't feel comfortable doing that, hire an attorney to do it for you.

Do NOT tell the judge that VASCAR is not reliable, it was night, he was behind me. The judge will not care. Follow the suggestion above and if that does not work, hire an attorney within 30 days to appeal that courts decision.

I am only relaying to you what has worked for me in the past.

    DireWolf,

When one generally sees an MPH in the 10ths, that's a time distance computer like VASCAR.

My recommendation is to check the math, both the distance and time should also appear on your citation as well as your calculated speed.

Generally VASCAR is very accurate, but like everything else, is subject to operator error.

I recently had a VASCAR ticket thrown out because the calculation did not add up (it should always). This was due to the fact that the officer traveled a different route than the one I did along the highway during his time track.

If everything looks good on the citation, I would suggest you attempt a plea to either a PA311A (failure to obey a traffic controlling device) or 5 over. In either event, no points are accessed to your license.

    Good luck.

Pardon me, that should read as PA-3111A.
