My question involves criminal law for the state of: NJ
My 17 yr old daughter was caught shop lifting in Macy's in NJ on March 10th, police came and arrested her took her to station and processed her and release her to her adult sister, they give her no kind of paperwork or summons. I spoke with the detective that night and he told me if charges would be filed we should recieve something from either family court or municipal court within 2 weeks, well here it is end of April and we still haven't recieved anything. Is that normal for it take this long. What should I do? Should I do nothing and wait or does this mean they are probably not going to prosecute. We paid the $150 fee (i think this was civil demand) to Macy's 2 days after this happen. Any advise is greatly appreciated.
