    Default Info On Domestic Violence

My question involves criminal law for the state of: North carolina

my husband is out on bail for domestic violence, although tis isnt the first time, when they arrested him, thats what i told the police, as for him he denied it completely, the court has set a date next month for his hearing, in the meantime he has been telling me that if he gets arrested, i would be out on the streets, as he would be unable to pay any bills, my problem is i am from a different country, am not very familiar with the laws here, i am a doctor back home, and here in the USA am completing my entrance exams needed for me to work as a doctor, without completing the exams, i cannot practise medicine here, added to this. i have a newborn baby 20 days old, have a house mortgage to pay, not to mention the other expenses involved. even if i manage to find a job, i have absolutely no one to take care of the baby as i dont have any friends and relatives out here and i dont think i can manage day care for the baby with the pay after i finish paying the bills with it, my husband has been telling me that i cannot appeal to the court or state for my husband to provide financially once he is in jail, and i am terribly worried that i may end up losing the house and everything and the baby and myself would be in a very bad state, my husband is a software engineer and although he si financially very well off, he controlls all the finances and i dont have any access or means of even a credit card, is there any way i can appeal to the court for support for myself and the baby till i get a decent job?

Default Re: Info On Domestic Violence

You need to be contacting your local domestic violence program. These are the exact issues and problems that they assist victims with every day. They can help you to apply for various social services for which you might qualify, provide guidance and education in understanding and managing financial affairs and exercising financial rights to jointly owned funds in your state (just because you don't know how to access funds right now doesn't mean you don't have the RIGHT to access to the funds), and give you information on immigration/citizenship issues under the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA). They are also well versed in the every day problems associated with being able to support yourself including child care, transportation, education, and housing issues.
