Long story made short, I'm being forced by a court order to deal with a guy who spent 2 years in state prison, and has been out a year. He went in a skinhead Neo-natzi and came out "finding Jesus". He spent an hour today telling me about his translations of the Bible from Greek and Hebrew "more original" copies and went through an elaborate justification for why the rest of us really don't understand the truth and why the Ten Commandments are not meant to be followed literally, and really don't,maybe even exist. He claims to speak and write fluent Hebrew and Greek (he didn't even graduate from high school). And of course, he has a more enlightened belief system than the rest of us, etc.
I see a few loose screws that need tightening.
I am just trying to see if this is a common product of the system or if he is something unique to aid in my ability to deal with him, since I have to and he has custody of a grandchild.
Thanks,
Yes it's highly possible. Prisoners are able to obtain FREE GED's, and even some college degrees while in prison. These programs are to help lower recidivism by ensuring they have the skills to find decent work. I do support this.
I just wonder why the hell it even matters? I could care less about somebodies religious believes. Hell, I always change the subject when religion gets brought up. I'm not an atheist, but...
Absolutely, education of any sort is a good thing. Please do not misunderstand why I asked. You are right, I seldom even discuss politics or religion myself, and then only among like minded close friends or family. I am in mediation with this guy and common ground and understanding is a key to being able to successfully deal with anyone. I could care less what he believes. I am just trying to understand the person I have to deal with. If this is a common trend in the modern prison system or if he is an exception gives me insight into his mindset and thought process. I am trying to determine in my own mind, especially knowing his history, if he is just indoctrinated or if he is fanatical leaning toward unstable (you had to be there to fully understand). It will change the way I deal with him, and thus is pertinent to my handling of the mediation process.
I understand, Gramps. Can you ask him to write something in Hebrew? How did you get involved with this gentleman in the first place?
He's the father of my grand daughter who has been taken from him. We are her permanent guardians and I have to deal with him on visitation issues.
