Good news guys!!! In the state of CALIFORNIA if your conviction is more than 7 years old it should not show up on your background investigation unless you are applying for a government job or law enforcement (the obvious jobs!!!) CALIFORNIA IS ONE OF THE FEW STATES THAT DEVIATES FROM THE FAIR CREDIT REPORTING ACT. Under CA civil code 1786.18. It states the consumer reporting agency can not give out negative information after 7 years!!! Unless it's a bankruptcy, which is 10 years. Just don't go and apply on the 7TH year and 1ST day exactly!!! Do the research on your case and find out the exact date of your conviction! Then go from there
There are some exceptions though-if you plan to apply in the medical field and have drug convictions or sexual related convictions, they can request to see any of those convictions, only fair. (once again the obvious).

This is great news!!! I'm glad California is looking out for it's work force and giving some rights to the employee. And not all the rights to the employeer.

A person who has stays out of trouble for 7 years or longer deserves a second chance... Thanks CA civil code 1786.18. !!!

I recently confirmed this at the local hospital which can, and only does background checks for 7 years!!! There is a reason why!!
