    Default California COAP

My question involves a child custody case from the State of: California.
Has anyone ever known Ca. COAP or any other state that has the same process to wave or drastically reduce the amount of arrears owed? If so, what were the general circumstances?
    Thanks!

First of all, this is better suited in the child support forums, so if a moderator or Aaron sees this, maybe they can move it for you.

Anyway, last I checked, there were some very stringent requirements for CSSD to agree to allow you into the COAP program, which include an extensive check into ALL of your assets and your earning potential. I used to review those applications when I was a CSO and a lot of times, people thought they could apply just to make the arrears go away. That isn't so. With that being said:

Have you ever applied for COAP in the past?

How long have the children been on public assistance where you were NOT paying child support?

How much money is owed to the State of California for repayment of the welfare benefits?

How many different child support cases do you have that you are paying on or ordered to pay on?

Have they ever had to charge you with contempt of the CS order?

You will also be asked about your earning potential, what you do for a living and how much you make currently. What your living situation is, what extra expenses you have, etc.

It's not an easy thing at all.

Oh, and one more thing... how much in arrears is owed directly to the CP?
