Default Speeding ticket with no radar

Early this morning I was driving in a 50mph zone, I then passed a Shuttle bus then once I got to up to the red light I stopped. Then a officer was behind me and pulled me over. I know I was speeding a little and I was just trying to pass the shuttle. The officer states I was doing 75mph and he did not radar me. I swear I was only doing maybe 65 at the most when I looked down. What should I do? I've never had a speeding ticket, I've got two babies that require me to drive safely. I am definatly going to go to court but there are two options on the ticket one contesting it and the other admiting guilt but wanting to explain to a judge. What should I do? I definatly cant afford this? Any advice would help!!!!!

    Amanda,
If your defense is that you were only going 65, you are essentially still admitting to speeding. Radar or not, the courts usually consider an officer's opinion about your speed to be fairly accurate.

There is another way to go that's not stated on your ticket. WA state has a "deferred findings" provision in its laws (see RCW 46.63.070 (5)(a)). What you do is ask for a contested hearing or a mitigation hearing ("guilt with an explanation"). Ask the judge to defer findings. You will have to pay around $100 "administrative costs". However, if you don't get another ticket for some period of time -- six months to a year, depending on your judge and SOP in your area -- the ticket is dismissed. That means it doesn't show up on your record and won't affect your insurance.

Granted it ain't cheap, but at least it won't affect your insurance (which can be a lot more than the price of the ticket) and keeps your record clean.

    Good luck,
    Barry

So in other words, if they give you bogus tickets, if you pay a bribe and don't get anothe ticket for 6 months, the bribe will work....how nice.

Personally I would have cars traveling down the road and videotape them with a known speed, at least ten different cars, some engines reving, others not, then show up in court and have the cop testify as to what speed they are going...when you're done and you interrogate him properly his BS will be exposed and his credibility will be zilch.
