My question involves an injury that occurred in the state of: Florida

Hello,
I was the only vehicle involved in an accident around mid-March where I had fallen asleep at the wheel and hit a guard rail. The car was completely totaled. Upon filing the insurance claim, I discovered then that my father's insurance policy had been canelled in June of 2007 for non-payment so Unitrin refused to cover the damages to the car, the injuries I recieved, and the property that was damaged.

A few days ago I got a letter from the State of Florida stating that I either need to show proof of insurance coverage at the time of the accident or I need to purchase property insurance AND have the Florida Department of Transportation send them a damage release form.
The amount that the D.O.T is asking for is 4500 which I think is exorbitant.

What case if any do I have here?

I thank you very much in advance for your replies!
