About 18 years ago I was arrested in the nyc subway and accused of sexual abuse and jostling while on my way to work, this happened twice in a two week period by the same officers, I went to court for almost two years, but the case kept being put off, so I asked my legal aid lawyer how can I put an end to this, he recommended that I take a plea bargain, in which I was told this would not be on my record after 10 years if I did not have any more problems of this nature, so I agreed and stopped riding the subway.
since 1996 I have passed two government background checks( Dept. of Justice and Pentagon, and one backgound check with Merrill corp. in 2004, in which I was hired, Recently I reapplied with Merrill corp and was offered a position pending a background investigation when the 1987 charges showed up on my record, the company is in the process of re-evaluating whether to hire me because of this and has spoken to me to here my side, but I would like to have these charges expunged from my record, also a couple of years after I went through this there was a huge article in the NY daily news about under cover transit police officers targeting African Americans and Latino's to reach there quota for arrest, I belief there was a law suit involved, Is it possible for me to have these incidents expunged?
