My question involves divorce in the State of: Ohio
I have posted a number of times in regards to a very messy divorce regarding my significant other and his ex-spouse. I can now thankfully say that the divorce was settled two weeks ago (3/31/08) - the two settled before a judge, waived their rights to further trial, signed some paperwork, and that was that. He left with papers signed by him, the judge, and his ex-wife declaring the marriage legally over.
My boyfriend and I are hoping to elope soon. However, it is his understanding that there is more paperwork he will be receiving in the mail that he must sign and return to the court.
To obtain our marriage license, he will need the final, certified copy of the divorce decree. Is this the paperwork he left the courts with? Or is the the papers he's supposed to receive in the mail? We are trying to limit further interaction with the attorney as, of course, his services are expensive.
