My question involves defamation in the state of: Florida
Hello. I am a high school teacher. I had an argument with a fellow teacher about 3 weeks ago. Since then I have had been a victim in several different areas. This teacher threatened me in front of a student that I better watch out. Two days later she told one of my superiors that I was touching a male student inappropriately. She later changed this story and then recanted it. The school also looked into the accusation and it was proven to be untrue. I believe this to be a serious case of slander. She has also called me 20 times and left me 15 messages some of which threaten to do whatever it takes to save her job. I believe that these are harassment. I am also fearful for my safety because of her threats to me as well as physical threats that she has made to other co-workers. There have been 4 people at my school who have filed complaints about her within the school. She has also accused me of slander and harassment as well as saying that she is fearful of her and her son's life due to my actions. I have had no contact with her at school and have had returned none of her phone calls. Therefore, I do not know what she is talking about. I am having a hard time getting anywhere with this in terms of consequences for her in terms of slander and harassment. I have spoken with some lawyers, but they only handle dealing with the employer. I am trying to get this handled internally, however, I also want to pursue something against her. Any advice on what I should do or what kind of lawyer I need to look for would be greatly appreciated.
