on the ticket did it say infraction or misdeamenor? thats your answer right there. it it said infraction then yes you could either pay the amount or appear in court. but if it was misdemeanor, you are required to appear in court regardless of the fine. you can call the dmv or local court house and ask if you have any outstanding fines/warrants. if you failed to appear in court you most likely have both

you need to find out if asap you have an arrest warrant which the court may have issued. have you gotten pulled over by the police in a traffic stop lately? if so, and they ran you license, you are fine, because the warrant would have come up. many times when a warrant is issued, you will not even know about it. there are many ways to find out if you have a warrant.

it doesnt matter if it was 2 years ago. if u failed to appear in court and u got a warrant issued then you also have plenty of court costs. those dont go away just because time passes. and if u did get a warrant and its been 2 years and u have unpaid fines ur license could be suspended. and about the court not mailing u anything its possible they did and u never recieved it in any case its ur responsibility to inquire about ur citations if u werent sure what to do u should have asked not waited 2 years to wonder.
