Default 16 Year Old Missouri Youth Wishing To Change Last Name

My question involves name change laws in the State of:MO

My 16 year old son has a hyphenated last name. He wishes to drop the last name of the hyphenation. He has been using the last name that is listed first in the hyphenation as his name in school since kindergarten and does not use the last name listed in the hyphenation--but it has to be on his school transcipts because it on the birth certificate. He also does not want to confront his bio father with this request.
What is the legal age requirement in MO, that a person can make a name change without the non-custodial parent's consent?

    Thank you for your help.

    18. The age of majority. Until then, he'll need the permission of both parents.
