I have been receiving phone calls from Midland Credit Services for a phone bill from 2000. The first time these people called me was about 2 years ago. I told the guy I spoke with I would send the payment, but I never did. The default date of this phone bill was in 2000 as well, so I know they have no legal grounds to report this on my credit because it has been longer than 7 years and 180 days. This is the only negative mark on my credit and I plan to dispute this with the credit bureaus and the collection company. My only concern is that when I verbally told the guy I would send a payment, I think I may have renewed the statue of limitations. I don't want them to try and sue me after I report their fraudulent claim on my credit report. Does any one know if my verbal agreement renewed the statue of limitations? I live in Texas and have always lived in Texas. I can't find information anywhere that defines this one way or the other. Please help!
