Hello,
I moved to New Jersey recently. Got a speeding ticket in NJ but don't have a NJ license yet. I still have an Ohio Dr. Lic.
21 over 46 in a 25. Speed trap and a half.
The officer didn't make me pay on the spot which i hear can happen. He also mentioned since i have an out of state license it might be best to pay the ticket since he doesn't think the ticket should effect my license (ohio).
However, i'm looking to get a NJ one in the near future. Yes, i know it's supposed to happen within 60 days of moving here.
Questions:
1. Does this show up as points anywhere? Like, would it show up once i apply for a NJ license? I'm not sure how they associate my Ohio Lic number to well.. anything. I would think to just not give them my Ohio number to run at the DMV. Just use a different ID (6 points of Identification) and take the driving test over.
Can i just shrug it off? (likely not). Could i just write a letter explaining my side and hope they toss it?
They have my Ohio plate number and Ohio Dr. Lic number but I don't know if they can actually use that.
Situation is a little strange. Wonder what people would suggest. It seems they just gave a ticket to someone they might have no way to actually track less somehow they can make a link. I did give them my insurance card and vehicle registration but, i don't know if they can really use that stuff either.
