Default Liability Of Sponsor On Financial Affidavit Of Support For I-20 If Student Defaults

An international student defaults on his tuition and fees for a semester and abandons school. Collection agencies come after the student.

The US sponsor signed the Fin. Affidavit of Support as proof of income to the school to receive the I-20 form, even though the student was merely transferring from another US school and had an affidavit for the old school from another sponsor already but was at this time expired. Does signing this paper make the sponsor an accommodating party, etc.? And if so, for how long? Please be detailed.

Also, do schools usually go after the US sponsor in such cases trying to collect? The school is public.

    Read the affidavit.

I expect that the sponsor guaranteed expenses including tuition, room and board.

It's reasonable to expect that the school will want its money.
