    Default Write Ups

Nashville, TN I am a Rn htat is seeking advice on write ups, I was called per my supervisor and told we needed to have a meeting, It was over a pt that I had had the previous day. The pat was stable in my care, but she did have some issuses going on that Dr. was totally aware of. To make a long story short, This lady died the net day as a result of Night shigt neglect, I beleive. The did not follow Dr.'s order professionally and accurately. ex checking blood sugars every 2 hoours. Well I was told that I was getting a verbal warning on this ,I told supervisor and DON that this was unfair and my Documentation shows where I consulted back with Dr. and Dr. also on floor and discussed status of pt with daughter. I got injured during transprting pt to xray and thought I had broken finger. My supervisor didn't give me verbal waning for about 3weeks, which turned into written because they also put in there about my injury. A Human Resourse staff member sighed paper without even being at meeting. I feel like I'm being harassed. Supervisor put in written warning slurs, defimication of character, and slander. Somebody please give me advice

Your post is difficult to follow.
    Are you in a union?

I was told that I was getting a verbal warning on this ,I told supervisor and DON that this was unfair and my Documentation shows where I consulted back with Dr. and Dr. also on floor and discussed status of pt with daughter.
What was the verbal warning for exactly? Improper documentation?

I got injured during transprting pt to xray and thought I had broken finger. My supervisor didn't give me verbal waning for about 3weeks,
???? thought this was over a pt on the previous day?
Did you file an incident report when you got injured?
Usually during a written write up, the supervisor puts the date of the verbal warning down.
As far as the warning slurs, etc. I suggest that you make an appointment with the HR person who's name is signed on the write up. Make sure that you add your side of the story to this.
And if you are in a union, contact your rep to see what your next steps are,

No laws in any state specifically address write ups. That is completely and totally up to company policy.

In the absence of a legally binding contract or CBA that specifically says otherwise, it is entirely up to the employer when to issue a write up, under what circumstances, whether it is verbal or written, how long after the incident in question it can occur, how long it stays in your file, and who has access to it.

The chances that anything in a write up will meet the legal definition of defamation to the point of your having legal recourse are so slim as to be practically non-existant.

the verbal warning that I was to recieve was not given to me until 5 weeks later, which turned into a wriien warning because they waited longer to get me on more things(petty) My injury occured that same day I had the Pt previously presented. I followed thrugh with my orders took pt to x-ray dropped pts o2 tank on my finger and thought it was broke, was unable to seek medical tx for 2 hour in pain, supervisor on floor and was arare of my injury instedad she was helping hous keeping clear a room for new admit, which was a Dr. and had to wait in the hall for 1hour. what ultmintly happed to the pt, night shigt did not follow through orders . Resulting in an acute care transfer and passed away. my doucumentation on this pt was to the T- other nurses make fun of me due that I chart very often and over everything that transpires with my patients. All of my documentation was correct, That;s why I sated I didn't deserve a verbal, and wouldn't sign even if it was presented to me that day. Night shift didn't not document properly nor follow orders of Dr. and my superiors are trying to put it on me. stateing pt was accutely ill during time That I had her, which she was not. She became accutely Ill during night shift. I left the unit at 1230 to seek medical tx for injury and returned about 5:30 pm and another nurse on floor up to help passing meds and duing accu checks. No acute changes noted to anyof my pts during seeking tx. An they are trying to drop everything on me:

No i'm not in a union, They never did give ma formal veral letter to sign they waited for 5 weeks later to put eveything into 1 big ugly write up. that is unfair, judgementaly, and just plain malice. I feel like I'm scared to go back to work and any little mistake could result into termination.

I agree - I see nothing illegal that was done by employer.
