My business recently vacated a rental space which we occupied for 17 years in California. 4 Months has passed, and we received a letter from one of the tenants in the building alleging his power bill has dropped significantly since we moved out. He is alleging we were wired into his space and stealing power from his meter. When we rented the space 17 years ago, all meters and panels were already exisiting. Any improvements were simply run from the panels in our lease space. Currently, Our new space is 2400 Sq feet larger with much more equipment, however, our bill has only increased about $150-200.00. This seems reasonable to me considering our bakery runs about $800-1000.00 in power every month. My question is, should the tenant be threating suit against us? or should the landlord be held responsible for any wiring mistakes? Afterall, we did rent the space and paid for our meter in accordance with our lease agreement.
Thank you for you help!
