Question Moving Out Of My House

I am 17 and living in the state of North Carolina. I am graduating early (Dec. 2008) and will be leaving my hometown at the beginning of 2009 when i will be 18. However I am moving out of my house in a couple of weeks and into a friends house where i will be paying for utilities. I have a job and i make good grades at school. My father (not living in the country) is fine with me moving out and being pretty much on my own. My mother (whom i live with) is also ok with me moving out. I am doing this so that i can get used to being on my own but still have the support of friends and family around me. However my mother is worried that if something happens to me she will be in big trouble because she let me leave (but she will still be seeing me quite often). My other problem is my step dad who says he will call the police if i leave without permission. Will my mother get in trouble or do i need to get emancipated, and if so are these grounds for emancipation? I would rather not get emancipated as it will take time and money but my mother doesn't want to get in trouble with the law. What are my options?

You are not going to be "self" supporting based on your post. That is a requirement for emancipation if your state even has a statute

no i will be self supporting i will just have cheap rent because its at a friends house. I will be paying for all my own needs. I have already looked up emancipation laws for my state i was asking if A. Will my mother get in trouble with the law for letting me live somewhere other than her house if something happens to me and B. If she will get in trouble are my reasons (stated in my first post) for emancipation reasonable/acceptible in the eyes of the court?

"I will be" does not meet requirments. If yuo live outside of your parental home with consent there can be no trouble unless the enviroment is dangerous or illegal. Long as you are an unemancipated minor your parents are legally responisble for you

    A. No, your mother will not get in trouble for letting you move out of the house even if something happens to you. Something could happen to you if she was standing right beside you holding your hand.

    B. You do not qualify for emancipation so any questions regarding it are moot.
