I guess I need to be more careful, but it's a horrible thing when you need to live in fear of what might happen to you if you stand up for what you believe in. Is the corporate world becomming overrun by a bunch of "yes men", brown nosers, and butt kissers?

More politically correct, the term is "obsequious sycophant".

A world where "might makes right" no matter how wrong something really is? If so, then God help the U.S. in trying to compete against China, India, and others. I'd love to work in a company where this wasn't the case, but that seems so rare anymore.

This is the world of "employment at will", sneeze wrong and you are subject to harassment and termination. This is the reason for alot of workplace violence, but employers are too stupid to know it. You push and push and push a man for no other reason than to play big bad boss and he is liable to snap.

I have not only been around in the work force many years but have studied employment law from time to time, and I can tell you some real "horror stories" that employees have been subjected to.

Some say they can quit anytime they want and remedy it, but a working man with a family does not have the financial luxury to quit every time he or she is harassed and have 52 jobs a year?? Employers rely on this as a basis for intimidation.

I guarantee you if they did and had to sign up for welfare or some type of public assistance they would be criticized as a whiner and if they can't hold a job.... yadda yadda!!! Why should the taxpayers support thier kids when they don't want to work, etc. etc.

I was on a board once where a woman told the story, she was told by her supervisor to be at the hotel to see him (wink) or he would terminate her.

She had a dependent child, was already behind on bills etc., and said she was so fearful of what would happen to her, she gave in. She said she agonized over the decision at length, but was very weak and vulnerable and... end of story.

Until they start criminalizing sexual harassment, lawsuits and fines/judgments mean nothing.

I know your facts do not concern this, but just as an example of workplace bullying.

My personal best wishes to you and your family and on the new arrival,

    Take care,

    BOR (Bill of Rights)

Reference info Pa: State law provides immunity from civil liability to an employer for disclosing job performance information with respect to a current or former employee upon the request of an employer unless lack of good faith is demonstrated by clear and convincing evidence.

Blacklisting isn't specifically prohibited, but blacklisting a former employee could constitute libel or slander.

I agree. In extreme cases like the one above, the person should go to jail.

It would have been great if the woman could have went to the hotel with a hidden tape recorder, got the evidence she needed, and then left the hotel room without actually going through with it.
