Default Unfair Treatment of Prisoners by Guards

Recently a friend of mine has been thrown in jail charged with Lewd and Lecvious battery. The state has not picked up his case but the county has. The gaurds at this county jail has threatened to throw inmates in the holding cell naked. Could that be considered sexual harrassment? Shouldn't inmates be treated like a normal human being? Everyone makes mistakes. Can anyone tell me the rights of an inmate?

    Default Unfair Treatment of Inmates

Of course, I have no way of knowing if this was a joke, an idle threat, or an actual threat. If an inmate believes his civil rights are being violated, he or his family should consult with a civil rights lawyer about the situation.

Default Punitive arm of the local police agencies

I finally joined the unfortunate ranks to be placed into the criminal justice system. I was charged and arrested, booked, and released after 15 grueling hours. The atmosphere there is brutal. Although I did not fear the inmates as much as I feared the deputies and jailers. Their techniques seem like pure accident or random in nature, but no, the torture is well thought out and sinister.

When I was first placed into the initial holding cell after I was fingerprinted, photographed, and stripped of my shirt, shoes, and socks. Then they throw you in slamming the door without letting you put your shoes back on and get dressed. Luckily I was able to hold my own space in there. But the lack of space ( 8 to a tiny cell ) and lack of oxygen seemed almost fatal.

For my misdemeanor case, they should have just ticketed me and set a court date and asked for bail, but they used the night in jail as a punitive measure even before any trail and verdict was given. I am awaiting arraignment.

At this point, I am completely shattered and devastated by these charges and this experience. I hope your family member or loved one does not have to go into jail.

But if he does, just stay quiet and respectful, especially to the sadistic jailers, and never complain or ask questions of the staff inside the jail. They don't like "smart asses" and will beat the life out of you. At the County Jail there are areas that are not within sight of the video cameras! I was shocked that the cells and halls were not videotaped. There were many areas which gave me the feeling that some inmates "fell and hit their heads" or were found to have committed suicide by "hanging with their shoestrings" and many other horrors. These are real. I couldn't believe that I was in the very place that was described in the newspapers and so much violence had taken place.

So please do not show weakness, stay alert, do not stand out in behavior or profile to the jailers and deputies and do not say anything to anybody in there! Do not crack jokes and try to be funny.

If you are arrested, ask the cops to use the telephone first BEFORE you are taken to the city or county lockup. Because when you are in there, there is no chance to make any telephone calls because they will not let you, and you don't dare ask the deputies if you can use the phone because they will not listen to you. Call a trusted friend or family member to immediately contact a lawyer and possibly a bail bond co. and go to the correct jail for the jurisdiction where you were arrested. And the cops arrested me they gleefully said they are not joking about "putting you in a cell with a murderer" etc.
