    Default Can I Get Emancipated?

Is it possible for a 21, soon to be 22 year old to get emancipated from their parents? FAFSA is not letting me apply as an independent student, and my parents will not provide me the information I need from them to apply as a dependent student. I am financially responsible for myself, have been since the age of 17. So, I guess these are my questions:

I live in Texas, but my parents live in California. If I am able to get emancipated, can I do it thru Texas, or do I have to do it thru CA?
Second, can I even get emancipated at age 21? If so, how do I do it?

No, at age 21 you are a legal adult and cannot be emancipated.

Financial Aid is a pain when you are under 24 yet clearly independent. Fill out the FAFSA as if you were independent - Don't Submit It Officially - bring a hard copy to your school and meet with a financial aid counselor. Explain your situation (with proof, like your rent agreement and your tax returns) and ask for guidance on how to get a "dependency override". The school has the ability to grant it. Sometimes they will, sometimes they won't. Different schools have different grounds under which this is acceptable.

    Good luck.
