    Default Can I Get Emancipated

Hi my name is chris I live in a small town highlands ranch in colorado, I am almost 16 years old and I was wondering if it is posible to get emancipated from my parents. The reson being is my parents sit in their room and just lay there all day and watch tv and when they want dinner, something to drink or need something els to get done they will call me and tell me to do it or get it for them my parents never clean force me to and my mother does not work at all and they keep little food for me and my brothers and the food they do get for the house usually goes to their room and they make me take care of them before my homework they make me clean before my homework and when my grades are bad because of it they get angry at me and i am also a gay individual and they do not agree with it at all and make it very uncomfterble and horrible to live with them and I was wondering once i get a job this summer and i am able to finacially support myself if it is possible for me to get emancipated and i am planing to stay in school the remander of the 4 yrs.

You should consider talking with your school guidance counselor about the problems that you are having at home.

I will say that telling a judge that you want to be emancipated from your home because your parents do chores is going to be a difficult sell.

Before I even research the law, I can tell you that you wouldn't be a candidate for emancipation even if Colorado allows it.

You are not living on your own.
You have not proven a history of caring for yourself financially, emotionally and physically.
You do not have a stellar scholastic record.

Emancipation is for children that are already living on their own so that they can enter into contracts and other legal matters. It is not so that children that are living with parents they don't get along with can leave.

Emancipation is for children that NEED it to survive... not for children that WANT it so that they can get out of chores.
