    Default Extending The OPT Period

    Hi All,

I would appreciate if somebody can put some light on this issue.

My OPT period expires in the month of January 2009 and i am about to file for an H1 B visa in this years quota. My questions are:

    1) If by any chance, the quota gets full and i am not granted the visa, what are other options for me to stay in US after my OPT period ends?

    2) Is there any option to extend my OPT period for certain period?

    3) How do i check the recent years H1B quota status?? meaning... at what date were the quota filled up in the recent years?

Please let me know. Thanks for all the support. Keep up the good work.

    Thanks a ton.

    Regards,

    Birju Shah

It's my understanding that you can only receive one 12 month OPT per level of study.

You might consider a tourist visa, though those are quite short term.

Have you spoken with an immigration attorney?
