Default Medical payments coverage vs. Personal injury protection?

I live in Florida and am looking for cheaper auto insurance. I know that PIP is required in Florida but wouldn't it make sense to get the cheapest PIP possible as long as you have adequate medical payments coverage? Aren't these essentially the same thing except for that medical coverage covers other people besides yourself? And if you have good health insurance, why have medical payments coverage? Also, why have uninsured motorist coverage if you have medical payments coverage? Isn't this like having double coverage for the same loss? Thanks.

    Default Florida Auto Insurance

If you have good health insurance, then you probably don't need to buy as much PIP coverage. Recall, though, that there is a lost wage element to PIP coverage, and that lost wages resulting from time of work after an accident will not be paid through your health insurance coverage.

Medical payments coverage is probably for the gap between what PIP pays and your actual expenses. So if you have good health insurance, again you probably can get away without special insurance coverage for that gap.

Uninsured motorist coverage gives you some amount of recourse for your pain and suffering in the event that you are injured in an accident caused by a driver who doesn't have any bodily injury liability coverage.
