Default NJ-Landlord did not come to court-still tries to evict

I was not able to pay rent since I lost my job(4 months). The landlord decided to go to court to evict me. I showed up at the court when the trial date came but the landlord did not. So they dismissed the case. I am not denying the rent I owe but I just found a job and that does not even pay enough for the rent.

If the landlord showed up, I was going to talk to them about a settlement plan. The other day the landlord shows up with a settlement paper asking me to sign it. It says I am gonna pay her a whole rent every month till the back rent is fully paid. It does not say anything about the current month's rent. I did not sign it because I did not fully understand it, and I think any settlement should be signed at the court or I have a right to be heard by the judge.

In any case, I do not have enough money to pay them double rent till the back rent is paid off..I can only pay %25 of the rent as extra every month to cover the back rent..So, my question is:

can they bring the police here because I did not sign the settlement paper they brought? But the case is dismissed since they did not show up at the court. Can they forcefully kick me out?

    Default Dismissal of Eviction

If their suit was dismissed, they can move to have it reinstated or refile. Have you overstayed your lease?

    Default New Jersey Eviction Law

The LSNJ website includes a guide to NJ eviction law which suggests that your landlord would need to go back to court to lawfully evict you.
