Default Domestic Battery And Firearms Rights

    Hello,

In Janurary 1997 i was arrested in California for Felony Spousal Abuse (PC 273.5). I later that month pled no contest to Misdamenor Battery (PC 242), completed the DV classes, paid the fines, and completed my three year probation.

I have NEVER been in trouble with the law since or before.

It is now over 11 years later and i am in the process of Expunging the conviction, my question is will i be able to own a firearm in my lifetime again?

I currently live in Oregon and the Public Defender in the county i was convicted is helping me expunge the record.

I talked with a fellow at the ATF, and he actually looked up my record, called me back and said it was a PC 242 with a domestic attached to it?

He said i could possibly be prohibited federally.

Please, any advice into this matter would be great.

    Regards,
    Sam

Default Re: Domestic Battery And Firearms Rights

Also just wanted to mention me and my wife are still together after 14 years, have three beautiful children, another on the way, a home, a business, a really great life.

So it just goes to show people make honest mistakes, and if you are going through something like this, keep the faith and try and work things out.

    Regards,
    Sam
