    Default Disregarding A Stop Sign

Hi, I'm 17 and I live in Texas.
Around 11:44 tonight I was pulled over for disregarding a stop sign. I passed a 3 way stop sign and only realized it moments later.

A total accident, and I'm well aware that the legal system seems to disregard accidents. Even though I had many factors against me:
-The construction equipment surrounding the stop sign.
    -It being night.
-The light in my car will not go off, reducing visibility.
-Me rushing to get home before the 12 'o clock curfew.

When the officer pulled me over, he asked if I had been smoking or drinking any alchohol, I told him I hadn't. And he wrote me a citation.
Here's the thing. He gave me some type of muncipal court document, in spanish and not in english. I really have no way of knowing of what I'm supposed to do, or how much I owe the court. I cannot speak or read this language.

I do recognize the price numbers on the back and the lowest is 155$ and that's a chunk of cash, I was wondering if I could possibly use this as some type of loophole present so I wouldn't have to pay, get the ticket on my record, or get off in a less severe way.

Since you don't "speak or read this language", I'll give you a quick lesson. What you did was an 'oversight' or a 'mistake'....it wasn't an accident. The same holds true for not repairing your car in order that the interior light will go off. $155 is about half what it would cost you in California; I'd be tempted to pay up...or figure out a reasonable defense.

The price numbers on the back are likely for a wide range of offenses. Take the ticket to or call the local court for an explanation and request a duplicate be issued in English or pay it at the courthouse when you visit.

Loopholes are for the most part more urban legend than anything else.

Your best bet is to take pictures (in daylight) showing how obscured the stop sign is with all the construction equipment around it. If it's hard to see in daylight, it might be literally impossible to see at night. It's worth a try.

    Good luck,
    Barry
