Default Wanting My Child's Absent Father Out Of The Picture

Tennessee- my child is 7 yrs. her father was only a brief part of her life when she was a baby. he has been incarcerated (several hours away in distance) since 2004 & has been given a 2044, no chance of parole, release date for a violent crime. we have had absolutely no contact and she doesnt remember him. b4 his sentencing, paternity was established thru the child support sys and he was ordered to pay the minimum support amount of which i will nvr see a dime anyway. im not on public assistance & i just want him & the child support sys to GO AWAY! can i have his rights terminated?

Do you have a husband who wishes to adopt?

That will really be the best way to go, because courts do not like to terminate parental rights without having another parent even in situations like yours.

You should get a consult with a local attorney who can fill you in on your options at this time.

Judges don't like to remove rights of a parent without another willing to step in. You would need ot be married for at least a year and new hubby willing to adopt. However your circumstances are special. It might be worth talking with a Family Law Attorney
