I'm a salaried employee at a veterinary hospital. Treatment was performed on my pets and placed on my invoice in the hospital management software. This bill was then finalized and the total amount was deducted from my next scheduled paycheck. This has happened to me more than 10 times and to more than one employee. This is not printed in the employee handbook, nor was it discussed with me prior to happening. SOME employees have discussed a large bill with the office manager and have set a pre-deterimined amount to be deducted from their paycheck in order to pay down such a large bill. I was NEVER part of one such discussion. When confronted the office manager replied "I didn't think you'd mind."
Is it legal to dock my paycheck without consent, discussing or alerting me to it prior?
