    Default Co-Signer Liability In California

    Hello,

My husband (we are in OR) provided a lot of financial information and co-signed on a rental application for my daughter (she is in CA), who subsequently got the apartment. A formal rental agreement was sent to us, but he did not sign it. If she should default on her lease, would my husband be liable?

    Thanks.

Yes. When you co-sign for someone, you agree to make the payments if they default.

Thank you. We weren't sure because it was only an application, not the actual agreement.
