    Default Traffic Citation Error

I recently received a traffic citation for running a stop sign in St. John, Missouri. The citation I was given is a computer generated Missouri Uniform Citation. I admit I am guilty as charged, but still do not wish to pay the fine. It states that the ordinance I was in violation of was 330.040. I have tried to look up this ordinance on the web but have not been able to locate it. On my citation the computer printed an officer name and badge number for the issuing officer. The name and badge number were scratched out by the officer; he wrote his name and badge number beside the scratch marks. Here are my questions:

    1. Where can I locate the ordinance to verify that it is correct?
    2. Is it possible for me to get the ticket dismissed due to the error?

In my opinion, the citation is a official document that should be free of errors. If I were to take my social security card and scratch out the SSN and then write a new number below, It would be invalid. I do not see how this is any different. Are police officers not subject to the same laws as the rest of the population? Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

    Default Re: Traffic Citation Error

As far as I can tell, under state law, a stop sign violation is covered by RSMo 304-351 which states:
    Quote Quoting RSMo 304-351
    (2) Preferential right-of-way at an intersection may be indicated by stop signs or yield signs as authorized in this section:

    (a) Except when directed to proceed by a police officer or traffic-control signal, every driver of a vehicle approaching a stop intersection, indicated by a stop sign, shall stop at a clearly marked stop line, but if none, before entering the crosswalk on the near side of the intersection, or if none, then at the point nearest the intersecting roadway where the driver has a view of approaching traffic in the intersecting roadway before entering the intersection. After having stopped, the driver shall yield the right-of-way to any vehicle which has entered the intersection from another highway or which is approaching so closely on the highway as to constitute an immediate hazard during the time when such driver is moving across or within the intersection
You may have been cited under some local ordinance, county, perhaps. You may have to go to the courthouse or a law library to look it up.
