Question Roommate Abandoned Lease, Left All Their Things

My old roommate and I were both on the lease in Kentucky. He left without contacting the landlords and I have been paying the rent on my own for about 3 months. His things are still here, and he has made no effort to return my calls/emails/what not. What do I do with his things? I don't want them in my apartment without him being here, can I give them to goodwill? and can I take him to small claims court for his unpaid rent? Any help would be appreciated with this situation.

No, don't give them to Goodwill.

Yes, sue him in small claims court and address the abandoned property issue there at the same time.
